A Romantic Big Sur Micro Wedding at Glen Oaks | Emily + Caitlin

Emily and Caitlin celebrated their Big Sur Micro Wedding at Glen Oaks and Paion Estate. They are deeply in love, grateful for one another, and cherish their time together. They spent their wedding day surrounded by close friends, all amid a beautiful romantic atmosphere.

A BACKSTORY OF EMILY AND CAITLIN BEFORE THEIR BIG SUR MICRO WEDDING DAY

Caitlin and Emily first met and began dating on September 29, 2019. A year later, on October 2, 2020, they got engaged, and this date happened to be Emily’s birthday. Their connection started on the dating app Bumble. They bonded over being Boston sports fans, a shared interest influenced by their extended family residing in Massachusetts. Their first date was at the Connecticut Yankee, a San Francisco sports bar known for its Boston sports ambiance, where they met to watch a Patriots game on a Sunday morning.

Caitlin and Emily’s original plan for a proposal in New Zealand had to change due to COVID, leading them to opt for a trip to Washington’s San Juan Islands instead. Despite concerns about wildfires and smoke, they managed to make the trip. Caitlin proposed on Emily’s 30th birthday at the base of Lime Kiln Lighthouse on San Juan Island. She surprised Emily with carrot cake cupcakes, coffee, and champagne from a local farmer’s market. Before heading to the lighthouse, they visited an alpaca farm and Emily’s favorite, a lavender field. Although Caitlin was unusually nervous, everything went smoothly, and Emily said yes. We did their engagement photos on Mount Tamalpais, which you can see below!

A ROMANTIC AND ADVENTUROUS BIG SUR MICRO WEDDING

Even though they had just five guests, Caitlin and Emily still treasured the other traditional wedding aspects. They relished in the intimate elopement designed to bring them joy. They wrote their vows by hand on the wedding morning. Their first look occurred at a suspension bridge under the redwoods before a scenic vintage Porsche drive along Route 1 to the ceremony. A humorous mishap delayed them—an hour late because Caitlin couldn’t find the reverse gear button! The Big Sur micro wedding ceremony unfolded on an ocean-view cliff, surrounded by Japanese Black Pine trees, with Caitlin’s college friend officiating and tears all around.

Their first dance featured John Legend’s “Stay.” Dinner was catered with a custom menu inspired by their favorite dishes, complemented by a strawberry buttercream vanilla cake from a local French bakery. Post-dinner, guests returned to Glen Oaks, leaving Caitlin and Emily alone at the ceremony site. They enjoyed the fire pit, cozy pillows and blankets, sipping champagne, and savoring cake. It was just the two of them under the stars.
